Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was an important person in the Civil War. Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was the president during the Civil War. He was strongly against slavery, the states overpowering the nation and war but he know the only way to protect the union was war. He is most remembered for the Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation, being assassinated and giving moving speeches.

Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was an important person in the Civil War. He was a great Civil War general who won many important battles like Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, Vicksburg, , Mississippi, and Chattanooga, Tennessee. His goal was to pin down General Lee and control the confederate capital, Richmond, Virginia. After Lee surrendered at Appomattox courthouse Grant mad sure he wasn't tried for treason.

Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis was an important person in the Civil War. He was a war hero in the west. He didn't want to be the confederate president because he wanted to be the army general but was elected because he was easily infuenced and was more moderate in his stance on leaving the union. He elected a good leader of the army but poorly ran the army by arguing with his generals. He admitted defeat by running but was caught and tried for treason in 1866.

Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee was an important person in the Civil War. He opposed the secession of his home state of Virginia but declined an offer to be the union general because his allegiance belonged with his home state. He was well respected by is men and was a good motivator for his troops. He had victories at the Seven Days battle, 2nd Batle of Bull Run, Battle of Fredricksburg and the battle of Chansellorsville. He had a horrible loss at Gettysburg and surrendered at Appomattox courthouse.
